The Right Way to Inclusion -
Philipp's job in the automotive Workshop
Life is sometimes a scenario with a thousand facets. When we look at it, it can happen that we are amazed. Some things make us ashamed, some happy and some just happy. Today we invite you to join us. Philipp has never seen the light of the world. As an early bird with a weight of 790 grams, he won the battle for his life in the incubator, but lost his eyesight. But he has mastered his life for years with bravura. The whole family is a team behind Philipp.
Philip was never educated as a disabled person, more self-confident than his siblings. His father always supports him when it comes to his interest in cars or crafts. From a small point of view, Philipp is fascinated by everything that is under a fender. He is a full-fledged member of the family. But what this young man has achieved, despite his handicap, puts us all in absolute astonishment.
The young man took an internship at his own initiative. Not somewhere, but in a car repair shop, a place where there are quite a lot of dangers, also for people with eyesight.
He mastered his tasks so well that he is now welcome every Saturday and is allowed to work together. What this has meant to this boy and the people who have experienced it, our small report tells us:
Philipp has never seen a car, but he is still enthusiastic about it. Through the contact with the hands images emerge behind his eye.
As with all young people, training is at the end of school. The word "craft" has a very special meaning at Philipp. His hands are absolutely central to Philipp, the sense of touch helps in the imagination of the world. Therefore, it is not a question that he feels called to the craft.
With a great self-understanding, he sets off without being misled. And with this strong belief in himself, paired with a bit of luck, he actually found an internship place, in the workshop of his trust - car workshop - tuning Dreams Kalantzis E. - Hüllhorst-Tengern.
Hüllhorst is a place where this young man is accepted and openly opposed. The team of the car workshop Tuning Dreams Kalantzis E. has integrated Philip very well into the daily working life. Together, it was really possible that, despite his handicap, he was able to test air pressure, change from summer to winter bicycles, mount and balance tires and various other work on the vehicles. Little help was given to the search for screws, but Philipp is now mastering these steps and manipulations from the "Eff-Eff".
For Philipp, the internship was an ideal opportunity to find out which training he would like to do later.
What was initially only an internship place has now become a regular voluntary work. Every Saturday he is there welcome and contributes to the success of the small team.
If there is inclusion, you can find them here. For Philipp, a dream came true, he liked it very much, he is happy and satisfied. He works without grumbling, comes home contentedly, and proudly tells what he has done. Philipp feels welcome in Team Tuning Dreams Kalantzis E., there were problems Philipp was helped immediately.
Something to smile, but a fact:
A customer comes to the workshop. He wants to have winter tires raised. He says to Philipp, believing it is a good offer: "For 20 euros per tire you can keep the old, boy!". Philip then smiled and said, "The tires are still bald, that even sees a blind man!"
With a smile, we can meet these people - to welcome them, because they often give us the most beautiful moments without any prejudice.
"Shadow child" Philipp does not belong to the marginal society - he is in the middle!
A big thank you goes to the whole team of the car workshop Tuning Dreams Kalantzis E. Hüllhorst / Tengern.
Without this opportunity, Philipp would not have been able to prove that an inclusion into the professional life is possible for many young disabled people.
Companies and companies should take an example. Inclusion is an enrichment for society. We appeal to all employers to hire more people with disabilities.
We see inclusion as an enrichment and development for people with and without disabilities.
Inclusion - All people are accepted with their abilities, strengths, weaknesses and other differences.
